Tommy D. Upchurch, DDS
Dr. Upchurch was born in Durham, North Carolina and lived in Fayetteville and Salisbury until moving to High Point in 1954. He attended junior and senior high school in High Point, graduating from High Point Senior High in 1959. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for undergraduate study. He then attended the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry graduating in 1966.
Dr. Upchurch joined the US Army Reserves 1964 and served on active duty as a captain in the Army Dental Corp at Fort Larson in Colorado Springs, Colorado from 1966-67. He then was stationed in Korat, Thailand from 1967-68. He returned to High Point and opened his private dental practice on July 1, 1968 on Lindsay St, moving to a bigger office up the same street in 1977. He shared the new building with Dr. Michael D. Samuel.
Dr. and Mrs. Upchurch (the former Ann Young) have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Dr. Upchurch enjoys a variety of music having played both the piano and clarinet. He was involved in the early growth of the High Point Soccer Association, haven served as President for one year and was involved in having the US National Team play twice at Simon Stadium in High Point. He attends Emerywood Baptist Church in High Point and was the Chairman of the Diaconate for 2009-2010.
As much as ever he enjoys seeing his patients and continuing his education.
